GameSync Presswire Theme

A warm, paper-toned editorial review theme -- serif display headlines, a drop cap, pull quotes, index-style listings instead of card grids, and a reusable verdict-score badge, for a site that reads like a publication rather than a catalog.

Works with or without the GameSync Game Data Importer -- falls back to a plain editorial/blog theme everywhere if it isn't active

Index listing
Verdict badge

One reusable score component: it shows the companion GameSync Review Breakdown or GameSync Game Ratings plugin's own score when active, or a plain IGDB rating otherwise -- never a misleading normalized number.

Built for reviews & criticism

A publication, not a catalog

Editor's Picks

A simple checkbox flags a post or game as a pick -- the front page leads with the most recent one, and up to four show in a sidebar rail on every article and the Games index.

The verdict badge

One reusable score component, in priority order: the companion GameSync Review Breakdown plugin's weighted score, then GameSync Game Ratings' 1-5 stars, then a plain IGDB rating as a last resort.

Index-style listings

Every listing -- the games index, the blog index, the front page, related items -- is a vertical list of rows with a thumbnail, headline and one-line dek, not a card grid.

Editorial typography

A serif display face for headlines, a drop cap on the opening paragraph, and styled pull quotes -- long-form article typography a magazine theme doesn't need.

Screenshot lightbox

Screenshots open in an in-page lightbox with previous/next, a counter, and Escape/Arrow-key navigation, with a fading-in magnifier badge over each thumbnail on hover.

Everything from wp-admin

Accent color, the top dateline bar, front-page section counts, which Game Page facts appear and in what order, archive page sizes, and footer text -- its own dedicated GameSync Presswire admin menu.

Everything, in detail

Full feature list

Front page & discovery

A lead story pulled from Editor's Picks (falling back to the latest post/game if nothing's been picked yet), plus configurable-count "Latest Reviews" and "From the Blog" sections.
A sidebar rail of up to four other current Editor's Picks on every article and the Games index.
Games and every taxonomy archive (genre, platform, game mode, etc.) sorted alphabetically by title -- a reference listing, not a news feed.
Front-end search matches post titles only, not full content -- fewer, more relevant results.
"Blog" nav link and Editor's Picks/genre/platform sidebar sections all self-provision or gracefully hide themselves when nothing's configured yet.

Game & review pages

A toggleable, reorderable facts panel -- IGDB Rating, Released, Platforms, Developer, Publisher, Storyline, Screenshots.
The full-size verdict block, showing whichever companion plugin's own scale is actually active (GameSync Review Breakdown's weighted score or GameSync Game Ratings' stars), not a guessed conversion between them.
Screenshot gallery with hover-zoom and an in-page lightbox (prev/next, counter, keyboard navigation).
Falls back gracefully to a plain editorial/blog theme -- every Games template checks the importer plugin is active before rendering anything game-specific.

Design & admin control

A single accent-color field, with the hover shade and tag-background tint derived from it automatically.
A dedicated GameSync Presswire admin menu (not the Customizer): Display, Front Page, Game Page, Archives and Footer sections.
Toggle the top dateline bar, front-page section counts, and which Game Page facts-panel rows appear.
A separate "games per page" setting for genre/platform archives, independent of the main Games index (which follows Settings -> Reading as usual).
Footer about-text, copyright line and theme-credit overrides.

Under the hood

No account system, favorites or newsletter -- a narrower, more focused feature set by design, not a crippled trial of GameSync PixelWire's.
Reads the importer plugin's post meta and taxonomies directly, exactly as GameSync PixelWire and GameSync Lite both do.
Self-hosted Fraunces (serif display) and Source Sans 3 (body) fonts.
No Freemius SDK or license check of its own -- like GameSync PixelWire, it's a Pro-license entitlement, not gated in code.

Common questions

Does it work without the Importer plugin?

Yes -- every Games-only section falls back to your regular blog posts instead. Editor's Picks, the verdict badge (via GameSync Game Ratings or GameSync Review Breakdown) and every design option still work on ordinary posts.

How is this different from GameSync PixelWire?

Deliberately different, not a recolor: warm paper tones and serif headlines instead of a dark gaming look, index-style listing rows instead of card grids, and no hero carousel, accounts, favorites or newsletter -- GameSync Presswire is built for a site that positions itself as a publication writing reviews, not a community/catalog site.

Can I change the accent color?

Yes -- a single field under GameSync Presswire -> Display. The hover shade and the light tag-background tint are both derived from it automatically.
